Pen and touch don't work at the same time
« on: February 19, 2016, 01:14:01 pm »
I have a Toshiba Z20t. Everything seems to be working fine so far except the pen and touch don't work at the same time. I tried disabling toggle and I tried switching palm rejection to left handed. Is there anything else I can do to get this to work or is it just not going to happen for a Z20t?

Hi Praxiteles,

I apologize for the late reply.

We should work on all Wacom based digitizers like the z20t has.

Do you have the boxes checked for "simultaneous pen and touch - wacom" checked in artist pad settings? In certain modes it won't work and not all combinations work the way we want yet. I'd love to hear back from you on this.

I do have both boxes checked for simultaneous pen and touch. One says HID the other says Wacom. Once the pen is close enough to be recognized by the tablet no capacitive touch features of any kind work at all. I'm beginning to wonder if certain tablets like this one are just not capable of simultaneous pen and touch no matter how the software is designed. I have tried every similar program and none of them will do simultaneous pen and touch on my device even though most of them work fine on other devices. If you have more ideas though I'd be happy to try them. Thanks for going over this with me, I really appreciate it.

I have a thought,

is it possible that you are using a "right or left dock" instead of the artist pad? I'm not sure if those are pen and touch together enabled. There is a possibility if you aren't directly in an artist pad that you would have these problems. Just a thought.

Hey there,

I am also experiencing the same issue as Praxiteles on the  Lenovo p40 Thinkpad.
I am in artist pad mode with check boxes on for -
Disable toggle ctrl,shift,alt
Allow simultaneous HID
Allow simultaneous Wacom

Any help on this is most appreciated.

Cheers

Can you describe a little bit more of what's happening when you try and use the pen in touch at the same time? This is probably going to take a little bit of research to figure out so the more information you can share the better

Absolutey , any info i can get you to help track this issue down is no problem at all.

System details below-

Windows 10 64bit
Lenovo thinkpad p40 yoga
i7-6600
16 gb ddr3
thinkpad pen pro

Tablet pro buttons work fine when using mouse and trackpad in combination with single and multiple tablet pro buttons pressed in tablet and laptop mode of the thinkpad.
As soon as the pen is used and comes into range of the screen , the button is deactivated and greys out.
Moving the pen away from the screen results in the button re-activating if it is still being held down.
This is a pretty fundamental workflow for zbrush so any help i can give in tracking this issue down is not a problem

Let me know if i can post you a video for further clarification.

Cheers

A little more info -

This Laptop uses Wacom AES tech , could it be something related to palm rejection ?

Cheers

I own an Lenovo Thinkpad P40 Yoga aswell. I have the same problem. I'm not able to use touch and pen at the same time. I have to lift the pen from the screen before I can use touch. This happens in every software.

I'm using my Wacom based sp2 lately and am seeing what I think you are also seeing.

So here is what I think is going on. I know that the Wacom tech works differently with Tablet Pro than the N-Trig options do. One thing with the Wacom tech is that the pen and touch works at the same time but with only 1 touch point available for simultaneous use. This means that if your palm is on the screen that would count as one touch point.

Would you test this and see if simultaneous pen and touch works if your palm is off the screen?

I had forgotten about this issue as I moved to the sp4 and surface book and its different there.

Hi Justice!

Even when my palm is off the screen, touch is not working when the pen is close to the screen. So it seems that only one input is allowed.

So has there been any progress on this issue or a workaround planned ?
Pretty useless in its current state tbh.

I have the same problem, Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 14 that was highly recommended on SurfaceProArtist as was Tablet Pro.   Starting to think this is a Lenovo problem.

I also can't touch more than one button at once such as ctrl+shift.   I'm aware of the tricks, but ultimately in Zbrush you need the ability to hold down up to 3 modifier keys at once and release one of them while holding the others.  That combined with the pen disabling touch makes it useless for Zbrush.  The pen issues makes it extremely limited in several other apps.  The only way to use the pen + keys without disrupting workflow is with a real keyboard.

Windows 10 Home x64

Any news on this?
