Middle mouse button with 3D applications
« on: January 14, 2016, 06:24:21 pm »
Hi,

Im trying to use my new surface book with 3d applications like unreal engine, maya and 3d max. The problem is they all require a middle mouse button to navigate. I've tried the middle button on the beta tablet pro but it doesnt go white when i press it or work in the applications. Can anyone offer any ideas.

Owen.

hi owen,
the layout editor when you make a middle button assignment for artist pad it appears to be click only. not click hold and drag. yes the button does not show its being pressed but it actually responds with a click function only.

however if you use fullscreen mode and set a button to middle mouse. When you press and hold the button with one finger you will be able to drag with another finger to perform middle click and drag.

if you use float mode you can assign two finger gesture to middle click hold and drag. however you will have to disable force move pad

Middle mouse click + drag works great when using full screen mode.

Using the pen + artist pad would be even better for the work I do. Where to I submit a feature request for a middle button toggle on / off (click once to activate middle mouse button, click again to deactivate) on artist pad?

Hi Owen,

We have a new feature that was recently introduced to help with 3D navigation. I would suggest playing around with "drag frames"

In the editor if you set a button to "middle mouse drag" you can add a modifier to it and have it be "alt plus middle mouse drag" and other variations. This seems to be the best solution at the moment and works well for me. We are working on a better solution still, but aren't there yet. =)

Hope this helps.

Julian, as always, Thank you for your great contributions! Excellent work my friend.
