Love this idea, Apple version someday?
« on: September 02, 2015, 06:56:48 am »
I have a cintiq 22 and I LOVE this idea. Sure I have 16 programmable buttons on the sides, but they don't have words on them and I can't move them. I have been thinking about this very thing for quite a while! My cintiq isn't touch, but I'd still like this very much. Especially in photoshop. I am a key-command guy and it kills me to use photoshop on the cintiq to the point of using other software.
Hopefully you make tons of money and can port this tech over to mac where arguably you'd hit more art departments.
Keep going, love this!

Hi Philofmars,

Strangely, this idea has never occurred to me. You're right, there is a ton of artists in the Apple brand. Hopefully Apples "iPad Pro" will have a real stylus. Interesting thought, I will definitely need to talk to Takashi about this.

How would you see this working currently? (on what devices/hardware) Any info you can share on how you would envision this would be greatly appreciated.

I am not exactly sure how your app works. Is it something that runs in the background and just sits on top of everything? Even if the pro has a stylus, I'd still like the software! Being able to set your own toolbar is something everyone can use. All of photoshop's tools have a key equivalent. You could theoretically make your own bar of the tools you use and shut off the regular one! It'd be nice if you could save "sets". A drawing set, a retouch set, a vector set, painting set, etc. all for photoshop.
The cintiq is wonderful, but a floating palette like you have is more user friendly than the circle one they give you (and more customizable).

Heck with the app you're making, I could see myself working in InDesign or illustrator more easily too! I'd gladly beta a mac version for you. The thing is, a cintiq generally runs on OSX and is just an attachment, so it'd have to be downloaded software or an app that comes from the OSX app store, so I'm afraid it'd be a whole separate programming thing. The IPAD maybe not, but the desktop probably. The draw though is the mac community. I am a freelance graphic artist and I have ONE client on PC, the rest are ALL mac.

okay, so let me see if I understand the setup correctly. Cintiq is connected to a mac. The artist pad would be available on the Cintiq touch screen for use in conjunction with the pen.

I'm curious if you could run our software on (www.parallels.com) windows on mac. We have yet to get our hands on a Cintiq, but when we do we anticipate being able to support simultaneous pen and touch on the device as well. (each device requires a little different code) if you get the itch to give it a shot I think parallels has a 14 day free trial.

Yes a cintiq is a peripheral. it plugs into a laptop or a tower and is basically an interactive monitor using the software you already have, just like a surface pro screen. It has 3 wires. one to the monitor port, one to usb, and one for power. I could use it exclusively if I chose to. It's just not efficient. The software comes with a virtual keyboard you can bring up on screen, 16 tactile buttons on the sides for programming and an onscreen button setup that isn't very friendly.  The thing is, the buttons do not light up nor are labeled in any way unless you press the center button. This brings up an unclickable onscreen image of the button layout with names which disappears as soon as you let go. So you have to remember what is what.

It would be so nice to have the artist pad onscreen and just drag it around wherever you need it to click on whatever you need.

I downloaded parallels but it does not come with windows... so I am not sure what to do with it. LOL! I just get the dos prompts and unable to boot message.

Okay it locked up my mac twice. Deleting this parallels nonsense now. LOL!

Oh man, it does NOT sound like a fun process. I applaud you for the effort so far.

I'll do a little research and see if I can find anything specific out on this topic. I'll also create a new thread for the topic "Tablet PC Mouse on Mac"
